1890 STEAM PUNK LONDON
CHARACTER DESIGN
This was an incredibly intriguing project that was commissioned to me. The client was looking to create a short story with classic literature character Sherlock Holmes meeting the legendary Harry Houdini as teenagers in a steam-punk London during 1890. They request a total of 5 characters to be designed!
First character is an alternative Sherlock Holmes, who has all the brains of his famous, older counterpart, but none of the confidence.
And of course, in companion with genius Holmes, is the iconic Irene Adler. A young and devastatingly beautiful thief and master of disguise.
Our version of Harry Houdini is shorter than Holmes, but bigger in presence and flare. More of a Chaplin/Buster tramp, he is a scam artist with a heart of gold.
Next, we have Beatrice “Bess” Rahner, who is described as a living contradiction; both an open minded spiritualist and a logic obsessed scientist.
Last but not least, who is our villain lurking in the shadow...? The illusive Jack The Ripper..? The infamous John Moriarty..? Or perhaps... both.
